So this is my first run, and I'm just learning about different aspects of the game, but how in the hell do you cure radiation sickness?

I've had it for the last 200+ turns, the only reason I'm stable is that I have the restoration mutant power to keep my ability scores afloat.

Is it supposed to be a death sentence? It sure as hell isn't going away on its own.
Do some items just exude radiation?
Is it from all the mutagen I've drank (I'm a software engineer, I assume the psion wouldn't have these problems)?
Is it because I'm in the gamma caves?

Is there a way to stop the radiation sickness?
Are there radiation proof suits?
Is there rad-away?

If anyone reading this would find that answering my questions would be too "spoilerish", then at least tell me if there is or is not hope.

Without getting too spoily, I can say that your thinking is pretty sound.

There is an item you can find that will help you identify the presence of radiation.

thanks, I think I found one of those. I assume that I collect radiation over time, does it at least decrease over time if I'm not in areas exuding rads?

I know there are two things that can cure it, I do believe. There are Canisters of Rad-Away. And there is an implant called a Radiation Processor that I think cures it, or just gets rid of any from there on. The Disk of Diagnostics can tell you of how much radiation you have taken on. I think it might come from the vats of sludge. Watch out for Radbeasts, like the beetles or scorpions.

EDIT:Also, Rad Traps. They bathe you in green.
